Adjusting the FAST calendar year season

Postby Native » Wed Apr 09, 2008 9:19 pm

An interesting idea was suggested in this thread http://www.kickflop.net/autocrossbb/vie" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ... =5014#5014
in which it was suggested we change our autocross season from the current Jan-Dec. to Sept-July, since we take August off and that would seem like a more natural break. Would also give those interested in doing so a chance to modify their cars between seasons, rather than during and forcing a mid-season class change.

So, here's a poll - please feel free to discuss pros and cons, and cast your vote.

edit: I should mention, if the vote is to go ahead and make the change, it will mean ending the current season this July.

It makes sense in many ways.
The Jag complains about autoX by throwing Gearbox Faults.
I think it is just lazy.

I voted, but I'm not telling how I voted, but by looking at the poll results now it wouldn't be hard to figure it out.

I don't really care where the season ends in general. However, since this season was supposed to last until December, I planned changes and repairs to my car for this year and to have things done and be ready with new r comps for class A by January, not 3 months from now. Aren't my plans the most important deciding factor?
To summarize:
It's a perfectly fine idea.
Sucks for me.
I abstain from voting.

I don't care either way, but if we change it we should give Drew a sticker for the first 6 months :)

I like the idea personally, and it won't effect me since I'm not in the running for anything and switch classes all the time anyway lol

Sounds fine to me.

Darn, now I'll never get my first place sticker for this season... LOL
This will only affect a small percentage of participants so it doesn't matter to me..

How will it affect the school held in January? Will it instead be held in the heat of summer??

Yeah, it sure is nicer to do a school during a cooler time of year.

The last two schools have been at the beginning of the competition season, March, and January. If the season ends in July, and we did a school in Feb. or Mar., that leaves 4-5 events until the end of the season (3 if we stretch it to Apr. - it's still not terribly hot then). It might be attractive to some novice students to have a few events at the end of a season to practice, but without any pressure of having any chance of earning enough points to place...and the ones who don't care about competition and just wanna have a good time won't care anyway.

I dunno - the poll is still open for another week or so - plenty of time to discuss and vote.

You can do a novice school (or non-novice school) anytime. It doesn't need to be scheduled in accordance with the competition season.

Push Harder - Drive as close to the limit of your tires as possible.
Suck Less - Drive something resembling a proper racing line.

Agreed, they generally aren't looking to win there class the first few events they would run after a school. I don't think it matters either, I'd leave the school whenever the weather pleasant.

 I guess that makes me an over-achiever 8)

Agree that relative timing isn't critical - attending a school in January is a much more pleasant experience than summer would be.

...and the kind folks that make the event possible might be a little tough to come by in July

I don't think the novices even realize we give out points for a season around the time they attend the school. ;)

Seems like it would make more sense to me with Sept-July.

OK

It's a done deal. The 2008 points season will end with July's event. The 2009 points season will begin in Sept. 2008, and run for a year through July of 2009.

I'll post an announcement on the homepage, too.

Y'all spread the word to the non-forum users!

Excellent! Now I don't have to worry about running in my class with a borrowed car for points.
