Looking for a New Ride

Postby TracAction » Wed May 28, 2008 11:20 pm

Ok sorry but work has kept me BUSY the last few weeks and also the fact that with gas what it is my wife wanted a car instead of the SUV but we still needed a larger vehicle for a couple of reasons.... so long story short is....

bad news the AUDI is no longer with us

but there are some good points

1)now have a tow tow vehicle for me (GMC 2500HD crew cab)
2)wife has little 1.nothin liter Aveo and may even autocross
3)I got more for the audi than i paid for it a year ago

Which brings me to what I am looking for now.

I am looking for a Miata in the 1k price range don't care about much anything except the motor and drive train are in good order. this one is going one of two ways either a stripped down no top, no ac, no radio(well maybe some tunes), no frills with race tires ride that gets towed to site.

Or will run it as is for a little while while i build the LOCOST frame and other parts and then drop in the miata suspension engine and tranny.

I've got two miata's sitting around that would be good candidates. I suck at taking pictures, or even setting up a time to come see them. Gotta be real aggressive with me (ask kenny :p ).

one is a 1.6, 90 or 91, good motor and trans, no frills at all. No a/c, no power steering, no radio, partially stripped, and no top. Needs a new fuel pump (which I have). Brakes need some work also.

the other is another 1.6, also a '90 or 91, only this one has power windows (don't work), power steering, a/c, and ready to be raced... after you clean it up a bit. Runs good, and drivetrain is in good condition.

your choice, $1k. pretty firm on the price. They may be a bit ratty, but hell, they're running, and fun! I could sell 'em on ebay, but really i'm just too lazy.

I keep them around in case I ever find the money to get started on any of my projects, (read: rotary, v8, ect). So that's why I'm kinda firm on the price. If they sell, they sell. if they don't, I have my project chassis' waiting for me to get around to my projects :D

Well Here it is in all it's mold covered glory.... Started right up with a loaner battery and drove home from Sarasota to Lakeland

Not sure how long Derek had it sitting there but just help firm up my new found belief miata must translate into bullet proof in some other language.

the good
looks like the oil pressure holds at 30 and the temp stayed planted spot in in the middle of the guage no unusual egine noises no obviously severe leaks and the Clutch feels to be in decient shape. looks like the timming belt and water pump were done at 138k miles

The laundry list of reapairs
1) the steering has about 4 inches of play and then kinda kicks hard.. Derek threw in a used rack for the front may clear that up.
2) The AC, Power Steering, and the radio Don't work at all now blower with the ac ( will prob just pull em all out this is going to be a autocross car after all)
3) TOP well at least it has one but that is all there is good about it
4) Speedometer non functional which means the 186k on the clock is prob atleast 200k
5) pretty sure the shocks are SHOT
6) obviously a tune up is in the works.

Doesn't look too bad for a grand!

I have a stock radio you can have cheap if you want it. Don't forget to sign up at the Miata site. http://www.tampabaymiatas.net" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I have some stock shocks with 70k on them, you can have em for $25 bucks. None of them are blown.

Hey Scott,

Glad you got home with the car in one piece!

That thing definitely needed someplace where it could get some love and attention (i.e. not with me :p ).

That other miata parked behind the one you got, had been sitting for three years. I put a new timing belt on it, and it started right up.

I also pulled the motor out of another Miata that I "rescued" from a car lots "dead" pool, put it in a friends car, and that motor started right up, and he's still driving it to this day. The car had been sitting for at least 2 years that I knew of, and we swapped it in one weekend, and he drove to orlando the next day.

It's amazing how bullet proof those miata motors are.

Anyone wanna claim the crack pipe I found down next to the E-Brake. It's pretty nice metal exacto handle and includes the Brillo filter for free. Only slightly used

WOW! That's pretty funny. Or, scary! A good lesson to thoroughly search any used car you buy. I am guessing it would not be a good thing to have rolling around the floor during a traffic stop..and then having to try and convince someone it really was left behind by the previous owner !!!

We found a bag of weed under the rear seat of my friend's LT1 Fbody when we stripped it out to clean it. Stuff was well past its expiration date but it would've been tough to explain if a cop ever felt like searching the car. The first thing I do when I buy a used car is strip the entire interior and clean everything even knowing that half the plastic clips on panels are going to break when I remove them and it will never go back together 100% perfectly.

Uh, Ryan, the guy in the yellow miata that used to come out... found a ... um... "sexual implement" in the trunk...

He got the car from a gay guy...

I would have loved to see his car get searched, LOL

Oh, and um... can I have my pipe back? :p

Scott, I don't have springs, but if you were to find me a REALLY cheap ground control set up for KYB AGX's, I'll let you have my springs AND the shocks for $50!
