PLEASE READ: Event Awards
We have decided to change the way we hand out awards.
From now on, all awards will be given out on the same day. If you place somewhere in the top 3 positions in your class, you will get your award the same day.
If you want your award, you will have to stay until the end of the event, then they will all be handed out. If you decide to leave before the awards are handed out, you will not be able to get your passed (missed) award at the next event.

Re: PLEASE READ: Event Awards
So lemme ask a couple of questions that will inevitably come up:
Um, I legitimately had to leave early. Can I still have my sticka?
And, I saw my times on the monitor, and I didn't place. So I left. But then after the event, it turns out there were some changes, and I did get a sticka. Can I still have it?
Or,
I'm the only one in my class. Can I just have my sticka now so I can leave?
May as well hash these out now to avoid confusion later...

Re: PLEASE READ: Event Awards
There are several reasons we're doing this. One is to get more help in cleaning up at the end of the day. Another is to get away from having to keep a pile of "allocated" awards envelopes on hand and either waste time at the driver's meeting or try to chase people down during lunch to hand them out. Doing it this way is a LOT easier on the guys who are handling the awards.
Another big reason is that this is a club, this is an all-day social activity, and we'd like to emphasize that more. We know that sometimes people have other commitments that they need to attend to on autocross day and they may have to leave early. But, in general, we don't like to think of our events as a "service" that you're going to come, run, and then leave. Stick around, watch other people run, help out where you can, organize a post-event meeting somewhere. Make a day of it!
Aaand... at the end of the day, if the people who aren't dedicated enough to stick around (and haven't bothered to tell anyone "hey, I've got something important to do, I gotta bail") don't get their award stickers... we don't care all that much.

That works. You can even have a friend pick it up for you. But, after they're handed out... unless other arrangements have been made, we're done handing out awards for that event.puncturina wrote:How about -- can I make my wife stick around for cleanup while I go back to work?
(this is pretty much how most autocross clubs work, if you're not there to get an award, you don't get it)

Of course there will be an exception once in a while, we dont want to make this change a negative issue.

Can I just get 11 First place stickers and 11 FTD stickers now to save some time handing them out to me at events?

This does raise the question...can I get my sticker from my last event in June at SPC on Saturday? By the looks of the competition in S1 I will never get another one.

Re: PLEASE READ: Event Awards
Not that I've ever attended any events, but these are all valid points and make sense to me. And sticking around till the end to help pack up/clean up is common sense if you ask me. It's a TEAM event and it should be a TEAM effort to take care of everything from beginning to end. There will be times when some can't stick around till the end, and that's to be expected. However, it should also be recorded just to make sure that "someone" doesn't make it a routine to "have something else to do" before every event is over with. If ya know what I mean...
I know I'll be to the season's first event early this coming Saturday as I'll be helping Bill with the drinks and ice.

Yes, I will have the passed event awards with me for a few months, just to give aeveryone a chance to get a passed award. After a few months all the unclaimed awards are going back and to be used for future awards.Gregbj8 wrote:This does raise the question...can I get my sticker from my last event in June at SPC on Saturday? Re: PLEASE READ: Event Awards
I'm gonna sort of hijack this thread:
A suggestion was made to me recently that we may consider some type of award for "outstanding coursework" - in effort to incite more dedicated fulfillment of the job duties. It was suggested that someone could monitor the courseworkers, identify a standout, and then somehow recognize them at the awards soiree after each event.
Thoughts?

Re: PLEASE READ: Event Awards
Lame. We're a driving club, we give awards for driving skill.Native wrote:Thoughts?
I don't think we need to give awards for course working. It's just not that complicated. We need to be sure folks are trained (having an experienced corner captain at each station will help with that), and otherwise just be sure we let them know if they're doing something wrong. If we happen to have people who habitually don't take it seriously enough and don't have the motivation to volunteer for an alternate position, we can simply ask them to not attend our events.
Perhaps this is all "negative reinforcement" rather than "positive reinforcement", but as we've said before... we're all adults here.
Now, if we have an obvious "superstar" course worker and you want to make mention of that during the awards, by all means... that's part of the fun. It just doesn't need to be an official "award" or something that we put time or energy into looking for.

Re: PLEASE READ: Event Awards
It's a nice idea, but who makes that call ? If someone goes above and beyond; for example, works two job duties, and gets fuel for the genny and runs and gets some forgoten supplies, then yes, I'm for giving that person some props, and maybe a couple buck discount on the next event. At least offer some gas money if they have to leave the site, but if they just do their job assignment plus a couple of other things, I can think of a lot of people at every event that does that.
