We just have to be VERY careful mixing karts with cars in the grid area. Too easy to not see a kart and have a collision!
That being said, if we have better control of the grid areas that we have had, esp. the exit from the runout, it could be done IMHO. However it is not my decision.

The Jag complains about autoX by throwing Gearbox Faults.
I think it is just lazy.

per our insurance defines "automobile" as a "sports car" or any self-propelled 4 wheel land motor vehicle. A cart will satisfy do.

I'd be inclined to adopt SCCA's safety policy for karts: nothing else moves while karts are running. No mixing with cars on course or on grid. Effectively, they run in a supplemental run group by themselves, tacked onto the front or back of a regular run group to supply the workers.

agreed. since I don't feel the need to beat up the "track" car at autocrosses, this might be a cheap alternative, and yes anyone is welcome to run in the "kart" but this gets into the dual entries that no-one wants, so you can drive it during fun runs.. oh no not there either. I'm perplexed, I'd offer to have an end of day prize fight or during lunch aka "pro kart challenge" $5 for 2 or 3 runs back to back each driver, winner gets 1/2 the pot 1/4 puts new dunlops on the kart, and 1/4 goes toward fast. hitting a cone is a dq for the run. (set up your own cones) keep putting $5 in if you want untill lunch is over or the kart breaks.
you pay $5 for lunch at a normal autocross, here is a chance to win it back. and being during lunch will elminate other cars on grid.

No one else really runs in R anyways lol
The lunch contest sounds like fun though, although you need to get some $$ for use...

Events running any later than they do has already been discussed in numerous other threads, so that rules out a post-event cart-a-thon.
Running the cart during lunch could work, but it would be up to the specific event chair, as it is possible there may be no lunch break during which to run the cart. If there is a lunch break, and the specific event chair doesn't object, then it seems like a fine idea. Only snag is what if there's too many interested drivers and not enough time? Limit the numbers and first-come-first-served? And, it must not interfere with keeping the "main event" on time...
The money split certainly is fair. 10 drivers at $5 = 50. 25 to the winner, 12.50 to the cart and 12.50 to FAST. Is it worth it?
He is - 25%.you need to get some $$ for use...

$6 per min of driving around a parking lot is not "worth it" either but we do it because it's friggin fun. if an event elminates lunch because of time, you don't have a kart session I'm okay with that, it's an elective. a set of GOOD tires is only $90 you can set up the computer with the runs in advance so you don't even need a T+S worker.
I really respect Loren, and consider him a friend. If it wasn't for his dedication I would have bailed on the whole one-lap Idea months ago, and now it's actually happening, in 5 days! although new and exciting is not his bag baybe.
While there is a lot to be said about steadfast consistency, My beleif is your Ideas are the frame in which you exist, Think Big and your world is big, Think small and your limiting yourself. If as a club we try somthing and it fails.. well all that can be said we tried. That's what gets me out of bed every morning. "what new will happen today"
sorry to present all my good and bad Ideas here, but we don't have "offical" membership meetings so this will have to do.
Well I'm off to NYC so have a great weekend everybody I'll be back monday.

It's great to discuss ideas, and this IS the place to do it.
I'm not entirely against running karts if we had people that wanted to run them. But, jumping through hoops at lunchtime so that "the few" can get some seat time in a kart does nothing to help "the many".

The "Push Harder, Suck Less" philosophy explained:
Push Harder - Drive as close to the limit of your tires as possible.
Suck Less - Drive something resembling a proper racing line.

'cause we don't really have official members... Yellow_Colorz_PDT_16we don't have "offical" membership meetings
Loren is right - the forum is the place - so bring on the ideas, good or bad!
and we all need to tell our autocrossing buddies to get online and monitor the board here - the more folks who read the forum, the more will know what's what.
ok, back to the cart discussion:

I used tun a Yamaha kart at SCCA events in the mid 80's, they didn't know what to do with them (then) so I ran in A-mod with all of the Mazda rotary thingies. It worked out pretty well. I would suggest that you also adopt the WKA safety gear and Snell helmet if you run them.
It probably doesn't matter but I was (WKA)State champion in 1992, 3rd in the southeast (WKA) and ran 2 invitational races in Jamaica. (6&7th) I also ran them at Daytona, Sebring & Roebling in the laydown classes.
