STU 2 CLASSING OR NEW STR CLASSING?

Postby Jack » Thu Jan 28, 2010 5:29 am

I was looking thru the class list i do not see any class for STU 2 wich was used last season in scca,This was a test class that has become now STR class
This class is what jeremy D is now running at scca events
This class is a street tire class for s2000's and miata's
This is becoming a large scca class.
I am thinking of changing my car from stock to STR class.
The new class and rules are on the scca's site.
So what class would i run in at fast events?
I am not looking to run in A an open class!
One of the street mod classes E1, E2, OR E3 or ? something diffrent?
Thanks guys!

I'm sure before the next FAST season starts we will add STR into an existing Fast class according to its PAX

Given that we effectively have three "STR" classes in our structure already, I don't think we need to worry about this. (how much more complicated do we need to make things?)

Prep your car to STR spec for SCCA, but for FAST, you'll be running in the class that fits whatever SP class you fall into. I'm sure STR doesn't allow added boost or big engine swaps, so bumping shouldn't be an issue. Just fall into the appropriate FAST Mod Street Tire class.

That's my take, anyway.

Street Tire S2000 flowchart -
Does your car have any of this?...

Code: Select all

    * Any internal engine modification (crank, cams, rods, pistons)
    * Any external engine modification that alters fuel delivery (alternate carb, altered fuel injection, fuel-air ratio adjusters)
    * Any non-factory engine replacement
    * Welded chassis reinforcement, including welded roll bars/cages
    * Alternate or altered springs
    * Altered suspension geometry (relocated pickup points, alternate suspension parts to increase factory alignment adjustment range such as camber kits, camber plates, or slotted strut mounts)
    * Alternate main body panels (doors, hood, trunk lid, fenders, roof panel, windows)
    * Removal of factory interior parts (seats, interior panels)
NO -> Class F
YES -> Class E1

There is no where to bump from E1, so adding forced induction doesn't matter.

If our current classing is working and everyone is happy, is it an option to just leave it as is based on 2009 SCCA classing that we already have tables for on our website? Just 'cause SCCA changes things, if our structure, even though based on their old structure, is ok, why mess with it?

We don't need to worry about ST classes because we don't use them as a basis. We should keep up with the changes in Stock (for our production classes) and SP (for our mod classes) because the changes that they make are usually relevant, and because they will continue to list new models every year as they are released.

The way SCCA classing works, there will always be a home for every car in a stock class and in a street prepared class. This is why we used that as a basis in the first place.

What he said, you can tell from post #2 that I do not consume any caffeine until around lunch time.

Might be time to change that.......
