Hey everyone,

So I am in need of some new tires, my current set of RS4's have little to no tread left on them and with them also being my daily tire, I need new ones fast. I know the easy solution is to get a second set of wheels but that isn't currently in the budget so new tires it is. Tire rack is sold out of the 225/45s for the rest of the season but I did find them else where for about $65 more overall. I really don't like having to spend this kind of money right now so I want to save anywhere I can. Oddly enough, Tire rack does have the 245/40R15 tires in stock and for a cool $3 cheaper per tire than the 225s. SO, do I save about $70 and go with the 245s and possible clearance issues or do I go with what currently fits for extra money?

Car is a NA Miata on coilovers if you didn't know.

It won't be "possible" clearance issues on an NA with 245s. If that's ok and you are prepared to make them fit, then it's a no-brainer!

Yeah I've done a little research and some people can get away with almost no modification but the general theme is pretty much a full flat roll and maybe a slight pull to be safe. Along with no fender liners but being in Florida and not living on the coast this doesn't concern me that much.

What about the BFG rival in 225/45/15? It looks like they are in stock or are you preferring to stick with the RS4?

I'll just warn that if you misjudged your clearance, you can quickly shred a tire. There goes your savings.

Even 225 is borderline overkill for an NA. Philip kicks your ass with 205, an open diff, and no suspension. Think about it.

Yea I'll definitely have to make completely sure I won't have interference before running them. I foresee a lot of time making sure they fit.

Not debating this because of more grip, it's simply a financial decision at the moment. I can get the best life expectancy from the RS4's and they just don't have the size I want for the price I want.

If you can make them fit I would got 245. The only downside I see is weight. The 245s are slightly smaller in overall diameter so that might help offset that but, rotational mass is the devil.

I think you should get some of these in 185, would save you a ton of money, last forever and too much grip is dangerous!

That guy was from Toledo, OH. ST Class Saturn I think as 2000 Nationals are noted. He later sheared a new rear spindle at a local event launching a wheel. Back when they used real Hoosier R tires with no tread on stock cars. Another guy from Akron rolled his ST pristine Scirrocco onto it's roof and it kept running until the oil stopped it. His take away was to always put an insulator over the positive terminal. It energized the hood so it kept pumping gas and nearly set it on fire too.

Nice find. I never saw the actual - almost roll over before.
