The 1.5 multiplier seems unnecessary. Why can't we do away with it and simply state the classes as such:

A - Modified race tire (all displacements, forced induction or not)

B - Production race tire 3.0 liters and greater OR 2.0 liters and greater with forced induction

C - Production race tire less than 3.0 liters OR less than 2.0 liters with forced induction

D - Modified street tire 3.0 liters and greater OR 2.0 liters and greater with forced induction

E - Modified street tire less than 3.0 liters OR less than 2.0 liters with forced induction

F - Production street tire 3.0 liters and greater OR 2.0 liters and greater with forced induction

G - Production street tire less than 3.0 liters OR less than 2.0 liters with forced induction

R - Open or closed wheel race cars (all displacements, forced induction or not)

I always thought it was the way you have posted, I didn't know about any 1.5 multiplier.

What had me confused (which isn't hard) with the classing was the differnece between modified and production, I thought the wording refered to the engine being either production or modified, not the tires.

It does!

Production/Modified refers to engine + suspension, etc.

Race/Street refers to tires.

It's really not phrased that well.

C - Production with race tires. Less than 3.0 liters OR less than 2.0 liters with forced induction.


D - Modified with street tires. 3.0 liters and greater OR 2.0 liters and greater with forced induction.
E - Modified with street tires. Less than 3.0 liters OR less than 2.0 liters with forced induction


F - Production with street tires. 3.0 liters and greater OR 2.0 liters and greater with forced induction
G - Production with street tires. Less than 3.0 liters OR less than 2.0 liters with forced induction


R - Open or closed wheel race cars (all displacements, forced induction or not)

OR... it could be displayed even more simply with just simple use of headings:

RACE TIRE CLASSES
A - Modified (all displacements, forced induction or not)
B - Production 3.0 liters and greater OR 2.0 liters and greater with forced induction.
C - Production 3.0 liters OR less than 2.0 liters with forced induction.

STREET TIRE CLASSES
D - Modified 3.0 liters and greater OR 2.0 liters and greater with forced induction.
E - Modified and less than 3.0 liters OR less than 2.0 liters with forced induction
F - Production 3.0 liters and greater OR 2.0 liters and greater with forced induction
G - Production and less than 3.0 liters OR less than 2.0 liters with forced induction

MISC CLASSES
R - Open or closed wheel race cars (all displacements, forced induction or not)

Including the specifier about forced induction makes a lot of sense: THe majority of classing errors have been due to missing the mulitplier for FI. Even though it's clearly described, folks haven't been seeing it. Including it in the class descriptor heading will hopefully fix that.

That gets my vote, it's clearly seperated and makes sense on the first read.

Although, we are still missing the mini-bike race class

So where were all you bright lights when we were setting this up originally? Truthfully, I don't care what we call them, other than we can't have two named the same -- while it looks fine on a chart to break things down into categories, it's impossible to build the class picklist on MAE that way.

My only complaint is more how the website's classing rules are laid out. "We have 8 classes" and such, lists them, lists what makes you modified, then the 2nd bullet under "other classing notes" says the thing about the forced induction modifier. That needs to be moved to flashing, bright green or something right above the list of our 8 classes. This way, it doesn't matter what we call them on the MAE site, if they have gone to our classing page, they will have seen the FI modifier notice if they've seen what the class structure is.

It's fine the way it is! It could be better with some small afterthought wording changes, that's all. Some things just have to marinate for a bit to see ways they could be tweaked for the better.
