Okay S2, you know who you are. First place is up for grabs as I'll be working that weekend and won't be able to join you for the fun.

If anyone recognizes that shot as their work, hopefully they will take credit - it is a cool angle.
As for chairing this event, I was gonna make a rant about volunteerism. Instead, this'll do:

Newbies take note-- Children under the age of 16 are NOT ALLOWED inside the fenced-in area at SPC. There were children inside the fenced area in July (in spite of a sign posted on the gate), but September will be zero-tolerance. If children are inside the fenced area, they will have to go outside the fenced area.

Hmmm... didn't work, Steve! We're still in need of a chairman for this event. Steve and I chaired the bonus August event. (that's "bonus", not "bogus", dammit) Steve won't be at the September event, and I am NOT going to chair it. Somebody step up! The sooner you commit, the more time you'll have to plan.Native wrote:As for chairing this event, I was gonna make a rant about volunteerism. Instead, this'll do:

Re: September 15 @ SPC
This is a bummer and a shame that a few bad apples can spoil something. With a 15 year old and an 11 year old, this will keep us away from events when they are with us, and in January when 15 becomes 16, we'll probably have to go elsewhere since I won't leave the 11 year old stranded outside by himself for the day.garage west wrote:Newbies take note-- Children under the age of 16 are NOT ALLOWED inside the fenced-in area at SPC. I would prefer to see the picnic area be an allowed safe spot, but I realize that people will violate that. I just hope that it is enforced because if I stay away (like the Sept event, probably) because it's the rule then I would hate for others to be allowed leniency.

Re: September 15 @ SPC
With 70-80 people in such a small space, it's really hard for us to monitor where kids are and aren't going to keep them safe. But, I've seen enough small kids in places that they really shouldn't be (sometimes with parents, just as often without) that it's a concern. When you can turn your head for 10 seconds and your 3-year-old be out wandering an active grid where helmeted drivers are trying to get to the start line, it's a problem.
We had a few people with kids at the last SPC event, and Steve and I talked about maybe being a little flexible on the issue. But, the more I think about it, the more I think John is right. For their safety and our liability, we need to strictly enforce the "no one under 16 in a hot area" rule. And at SPC, that means kids must stay outside the fence.
SCCA events (because their insurance rules are more kid-friendly than ours) are much better for kids than we can be. At their events, you can carry a passenger as young as age 12, and if you want to invest in a junior kart, they can DRIVE at age 8.

Re: September 15 @ SPC
Sorry Ron, you probably aren't the only one this affects, but yeah John is right.
And the changes in attendance rules at SPC and Brooksville were not come to easily or quickly. We realize that events are outings for a lot of friends and family (it's a social event as much as a driving event). But we've got to abide by our insurance for the sake of all involved.
As for no one under 16 - insurance dictates no non-participants in hot areas. And a "participant" must be at least 16, therefore...

Re: September 15 @ SPC
Actually, I kind of spoke out of turn here re: zero tolerance. I'm not in any position of authority, and I won't be chairing the event. I will be running registration that morning, and if children are present when people are signing in, I will inform them of the policy. I will not be the enforcement Nazi, however. After registration is finished, I'm at the event for me alone and the event chairs can do as they see fit.

Certainly fair enough, and thanks in advance for doing registration! But anyone who knows the rules is free to share them (please do, in fact). However, event chairs can't change our insurance rules...garage west wrote:Actually, I kind of spoke out of turn here re: zero tolerance.
