that was a fun course!

as noted, I made some changes to the front of my car that made the front stick a little more than before, especially on lift. Steve dealt with it better than I did but hey it was still fun...just not good for points or brag :)

was very impressed how smooth things went with larger headcount and 5 runs. Thanks everyone!

Always check your vest before donning, especially if it has been on the ground all through lunch...Put mine on without the aforementioned safety check, and was COVERED with fire ants before I knew it. Probably like 40 or 50, mostly on my T-shirt, fortunately. Injury count today looks like about 10 bites.

Word to the wise--if you have anaphylactic level reactions to fire ant stings, BE CAREFUL.
I think I might have mentioned this to Kyle Shader about the fire ants recently. I don't remember it being this bad, the last couple events I've gone with FAST, PCA, FCRC, and in different spots there were more fire ants than I could remember.

I wonder if it would be ok to bring ant killer to brooksville.

Backed that up today: when we reinstalled my hardtop on the car, we found a nest of fire ants was busy relocating into the seals. Had to pull off the top, hit it with bug spray, then hit the soft top underneath with bug spray as well.

Bring ant killer. Bring flamethrowers. Scorched earth!

I have 187 runs on my RE-71s and I think they are past their prime, was chasing the back of the car on every run.

Seems to be a lot of that going on out there lately. I'm going to bring some fire and bait the next time we're at Brooksville. It won't be an immediate solution. But, if we use it wherever we see fire ants, it will eventually kill the nest. (of course, there will always be more)

My RE71's just turned 2 years old 118runs + 2800 road miles since I had them in storage for about 9 months burning up other R tires. I've still got 2/32" tread left and they still stick pretty well only 2 seconds off the pace which means you could be running with the leaders in my car on my old skinny tires in S1:) I did have Carl flip them on the rims for this season to even out the wear. So long as I run on concrete I'll be okay for awhile. Impressive for an old fat tire.

I've observed that fire ants in Hernando are seasonally more active in the Spring and the Fall at my house on the flight path of the airport. That's when I have to walk around looking for their nests before mowing the grass. They are protecting their eggs which they store just under the surface of the raised mound. The "Crazy Ants" that are coming from TX will kill them eventually but they like to nest in electrical devices which shorts them out. We lose again.

Pictures! Big thanks to my spotter for braving the fire ant ridden fields. Heats 2,3, and 4. A few shots of Heat 1 at the end.

Wait - Are these crazy ants a thing? For the first time, I have no fire ants this year but I had a mound on the outside of the house up against the foundation and they went under the block piling dirt up to and into the interior electrical outlet!

At first I thought for sure I had termites, but it was indeed ants...

This is the "truth" for ant control. Serve this up and you've no issues for like 6 months! I can't believe how well it worked. Btw don't just treat the mounds, spread it like fertilizer lol. Through some across the fence into the neighbor's yard too ;). Problem solved. Image

You probably have them. I do. They got their name from the erratic way they run around in random directions. Yes they wipe out the fireants and climb into your electrical boxes.

I just ordered a 3-pound bag of Amdro. Should be enough to sprinkle a little all down both sides of the runway, healthily around the portapottie area, and more anywhere we see a mound. It is, indeed, good stuff. :thumbwink:

You might as well give me my first place sticker now for S4
September I was 3 seconds behind 1st
October I was 2 seconds
November I was 0.9 behind first
Its simple math I'm guaranteed 1st in December

We're three events into the 2019 season. Probably about time we had a look at the points, eh?

Season Points

Thanks for the update, Philip! :thumbwink:
