FAST Classic - Jan 1, 2017

Postby Loren » Thu Dec 15, 2016 10:57 pm

New Year's Day. Traditionally, the day everyone who is fortunate enough to not be working sleeps in, and holds down their couch all day.

But, not this year! This year, you get to autocross! After you sleep in, of course. We'll be starting late.

This is a Classic event, which means fewer entries, more runs and no formal novice instruction. We do require all entrants to have competed in at least 5 prior autocross events so that they sort of know what they're doing (or enlist an experienced sponsor). And don't forget that our exhaust sound restriction will be fully enforced.

We'll be providing lunch for all registered drivers and guests at this event.

We're still doing the Buddy System for less experienced competitors. We will allow less experienced autocrossers, even first-timers, if they have a qualified FAST regular sponsor them. As the experienced buddy, you can only sponsor ONE driver, and you are responsible for them throughout the day. You will be paired with them in the same run group (they don't have to drive your car, but they can) so that you can ride with them and they can ride with you. And you may be paired with them on a work assignment. We have no formal novice training at a Classic event, so the responsibility falls to you to do a good course walk with them and show them the ropes. We hope people will continue to have fun with that!

Registration is open until December 26, but register early so you don't forget! AND know that this event might fill up early.

This event is at Brooksville, so pre-registration is required for ALL drivers and guests.

2017 Official Schedule

Postby Tomsoyk » Sun Dec 18, 2016 4:23 pm

Hi all
I am new to your forum and driving format.
I regularly participate in track day events, and would like to add auto crossing to my skill set.
There are many things I cannot practice on a track that would make me a better driver.
My schedule would allow me to go to your January 1 st event but the rules do not allow a new driver.
Is there someone out there willing to "buddy" for me?
I promise not to embarrass you.
Thank you in advance.
Tom

I would buddy for him ( the track guys normally know what they are doing ) but I might not even be able to go to the event, EVERYONE wants that day off at work and even if I did get it off ( I won't ), I know I'll be called in because half the staff will have a hangover. I just hope I can help with setup, grab a few pictures and run or I might help with teardown.

I think it should be a surprise. Let everyone figure it out in their post-new year's eve, bleary eyed haze.

Fun idea, Drew! We might have to do that someday. No map... no course walking. Just drive! (Ron might be good at it)

But, for this event...

Honestly, as long as it is a well-designed course, it shouldn't be difficult.

We're down to 15 open slots for this event. If you've been on the fence, now would be a good time to get off of it!

I really wanna go, count me in as a late sign-up if anything... I'm trying to track down a sneaky little boost leak!! I've already re-seated all of my intercooler piping and installed new clamps, checked my BOV and throttle body... nothing... I even pumped 25psi of compressed air into the system today with my air compressor and couldn't hear any hissing... I'm starting to run out of ideas on what to do next...

Any thoughts?

What is this "boost" that you speak of? Is that related somehow to that "torque" thing that I've heard about? :dunno:

My car internal goings-on knowledge is limited, so please forgive this suggestion if it is completely absurd, but would the soapy water check-for-a-puncture-in-a-tire method somehow be adapted to your needs to locate the offending leak?

Yeah same basic idea, spray the intake/turbo piping with soapy water abs rev the engine and look for bubbles.... tried that too yesterday. No dice.
