Is there anything planned yet? If not, what day would be good for everyone? I'd prefer a Saturday but can be there anytime on the weekends and anytime after 5 pm during the week as long as I'm in town. I'm going to assume that the build will take place at Howard's but I can also offer to do it at my place.

Trailer Build Thread Part 2
Thought I'd start a fresh thread on this subject, and try to get something organised. I had every intention to get a few of us together around lunch time and discuss a plan, time and place. For some reason the subject had completely slipped my mind.

Per Howard, pretty much any weekend in March is ok with him.
We have an event on 8th/9th, 1st/2nd is too soon.
If you can help, post up which weekends you are available..
Choices are.........
March 15/16th, 22nd/23rd, 29th/30th.
I have to work every other weekend so I may not be there but we need to get the ball rolling on this.........

March 15 or 16 or both is fine with me, sooner the better IMO.
I think it would help in our favor if one or more of us was to go to the trailer during the week, spend a little time (no more than a hour I'd think) to come up with a design, do some measuring, and make up a supply list. Then one of us could head to a Home center the next day or so and buy the supplies we need. I'd be glad to do this anytime during next week after work (5pm).
This way we could get started first thing in the morning on build day. I don't think we want to all get together and debate about what needs to be done and how we're going to do it, and then have to head to Home Depot or Lowe's etc hoping they have everything in stock and buy the supplies.
These are my suggestions:
The windows should be top priority, I haven't seen the trailer but I'm assuming that vinyl case home windows would do the trick. The size and placement are going to be factors we need to address.
Work surface/counter area, should be very easy to build, do we want it to fold up to allow for extra room when loading the trailer or keep it a fixed counter?
Wiring, count me out here
, I'll be glad to lend any suggestions of placement for outlets and would be glad to help assist, but I normally stay away from wiring issues.
This is about all I can think of for now, let's hear some other ideas.

I'll be avaliable most of next week after work to do some planning, measuring, and making a supply list. I can also pick up the supplies that week, this way when we decide what weekend we want to do this, we're ready to go.

Thanks for getting moving on this guys. I'm pretty busy in March, so I'm just gonna wait for the dates before I commit to helping.
FWIW, the "official" budget for trailer improvements is $250. I'm a pretty conservative budgeter, though, so if it's necessary to go over that, some, no problem. 8)

is the club planning on selling the old trailer to fund the new one?
speaking of which, if anyone knows anyone who may be interested in a slightly used and lovingly cared for construction office trailer...Yes, we'll be selling the old trailer to recoup some funds.

Anyone know how to contact Howard? I'm assuming that the trailer is at his place, and I'm hopeful we will be able to meet up during next week to get a list made. I have limited internet access this week (being in cold rainy Memphis
), but will try to check in before Saturday and maybe be able to confirm a day for next week.

This week and next week are going to be very busy for me, I have to work in Daytona Thursday and possibly Friday, and I will be in Atlanta Tues -Thurs next week.
My idea is to go to Howard's Friday afternoon and do some measuring and make a list, will this work for anyone else? Or should I rescedule a better day? I think Bill was interested in giving his input and helping make a list, anyone else want to meet at the trailer?
The idea was to buy all the supplies and install everything on Saturday (3/22) will this work for anyone else? yes? no?

That will be fine, so lets plan on the 23rd then.Charles wrote:How about the 23rd / Sunday ?
Will do, any suggestions on the window sizes, placement, etc etc.Charles wrote: Go for it on Friday or as soon as you can get someone else to be another set of eyes for your shopping list.
Kenny wanted the work surface the same depth as in the old trailer, I'm thinking of putting hinges on it, that way we can flip it up out of the way to make more room for storage.

Hinges would be nice with some way to secure the shelf in the up position.solar 90GT/03Si wrote:

Same depth would be nice yes, basically we need to make sure the laptop + timing box fit on it comfortably with the cables coming out of the back.
On window size....... one large on one side like we have now to allow good visibility for timing.
On the other side we can get away with smaller I think. Ideally we would handle registration from this window and be able to communicate with whoever is writing the times down.
One small fixed "window" on the nose made out of something tougher than glass.... so it can take a hit in transit......this one doesn't even need to open+close. This will allow timing to see the starter regardless of which side we are starting on.
